The Acrylic Cathedral
Emerging from a thematic unit centered around World War I and the birth of the Modern world, The Acrylic Cathedral stands as a remarkable testament to interdisciplinary exploration.
This 6’ x 8’ x 10’ architectural marvel was conceptualized and constructed by students, made from an array of materials, including wood, polycarbonate sheets, cardboard, Sharpies, and metal leaf. Drawing inspiration from the French Gothic architectural tradition, it resides at the confluence of various dichotomies: the old and the new, the sacred and the secular, and the tragic and the triumphant. Notably, it features stained “glass” windows crafted from reclaimed COVID barriers, narrating the epic tale of the universe from the Big Bang to the distant reaches of the future.
“Not everyone sketches modern interpretations of French Gothic cathedrals during their free time on the weekend.”
”Yes, I hear you. But those are not our people.”
